Beginning in late 2018 the supply chain for PCs was drastically hit by a shortage of Intel CPUs. The CPU, or central processing unit, is a key component of all computer systems. With this shortage, PC manufacturers are unable to complete systems and that has unfortunately led to long waits for new computers.
This is an industry-wide shortage and affects all PC manufacturers. Advantage Technology has worked hard to build great relationships with our vendors, including our primary PC source, Dell EMC. As the only Dell EMC Gold Partner in West Virginia, we work closely with key people to get the best possible delivery times, but delays are still prevalent in the short term.
Fortunately, Intel’s interim CEO, Bob Swan, has stated, “Our expectation is, working with our consumers, that we will be through the supply constraints as we exit the second quarter of this year.” As the supply increases, PC manufacturers will better able to keep up with demand and delays will reduce.
If you’re working with an Advantage Technology representative on a PC purchase and the delivery time is critical, be sure to let the representative know. We may be able to make special arrangements or modify the configuration to avoid the CPUs that are in short supply. Advantage Technology will make every effort to get you what you need as quickly as possible.
